Sasun Mikayelyan was born on November 7, 1957 in the village of Atarbekyan in the Hrazdan region.
Mr. Mikayelyan graduated from the Grigor Magistros Charentsavan University in 1998 and from the Armenian Agricultural Academy in 2004. He is an economist.
From 1976-1978 he served in the Soviet Army. He spent the next five years workÂing for construction companies in Rostov, Chelyabinsk and Kourgan (Russia). From 1983-1987 he was a dispatcher in the Hrazdan Commercial and Economic Enterprise. In 1988 he formed and led the Sasoun Detachment. In 1993 he was the head of the Hrazdan Territorial Division of Yerkrapah Volunteer Union. In 1996 he was appointed Chairman of Yerkrapah Volunteer Union Kotayk Regional Council. From 1996-1999 he was mayor of the town of Hrazdan.
1995-1999 was his first term as a deputy in the NA (electoral district #75) and he was a member of first the Republic Faction and later Yerkrapah Deputy Group.
1999-2003 was his second term as a deputy in the NA (electoral district #54) and he sat on the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. He was also a member of the Unity Faction and later the Armenia Deputy Group.
From 2003-2007 he was a deputy in the NA (electoral district #41). He was a member of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. He was not a member of any faction or deputy group.
On May 12, 2007 he was elected to the NA from electoral district #25.
Mr. Mikayelyan is married and has three children.
