Melik Manukyan was born on May 5, 1955 in the village of Saranist in the Abovyan region.

Mr. Manukyan graduated with a degree in economics at Ekaterinbourg (Russia) Uralian Institute of National Economy in 1993. He is a Economics PHD.

From 1973-1975 he served in the Soviet Army. For the next fourteen years he worked in the Arzni Haybyureghapaki Plant. In 1989 he founded Saranist Ltd. and became its president. He is a member of the boards of the RA Businessmen and Producers Union and Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

From 2003-2007 he was a deputy in the NA (electoral district #45). Till 22 May 2006 he was a member of  the Rule of Law Faction. Then he was not a member of any  factions or deputy group. He was a member of the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs.

On May 12, 2007 he was elected to the NA from electoral district #27.

Mr. Manukyan is married and has five children.
