Hakob Hakobyan was born on January 26, 1958 in the village of Tsovinar in the Martouni region.
Mr. Hakobyan graduated with a degree in engineering and economics from Yerevan Polytechnic Institute in 1980.
From 1980-1983 he was an economist in the Arpa-Sevan Construction Trust. For the next five years he worked as an engineer-economist, later from 1988-1995 he was the deputy head. From 1995-1999 he was first the executive director and later the president of the Arpa-Sevan OJSC.
1999-2003 was his first term as a deputy of the NA (electoral district #43) and he was on the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs. He was a member first of the Stability Deputy Group, later he was not a member of any faction or deputy group and in the end became a member of the “People's Deputy” Deputy Group.
From 2003-2007 he was a deputy in the NA (electoral district # 34). He was a member of the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs. He was a member of the “People's Deputy” Deputy Group.
On May 12, 2007 he was elected to the NA from electoral district #24.
Mr. Hakobyan is married and has three children.
