Alvard Petrossyan was born on October 4, 1946 in Yerevan.
Ms. Petrossyan graduated from Yerevan State University in 1968. She is a philologist, writer and publicist. She was awarded a Marshal Baghramyan Medal in 1997.
From 1969-1975 she worked as an editor in the State Television and Radio Committee. She spent the next four years at Hayastani Ashkhatavorouhi magazine. From 1980-1981 she worked for the Armenian Diaspora Committee. From 1982-1990 she was the assistant general editor of first Soviet Literature and then Nork literary and art magazine. For the next four years she was the general editor of Aragast weekly. From 1994-1998 she was the head of the Armenian Regional Department of the Armenian Aid Union. Since 1998 she has been a member of the Armenian Aid Union central board.
1999-2003 was her first term as a deputy in the NA (proportional system, Armenian Revolutionary Federation) and she was on the NA Standing Committee on Social, Health Care and Environmental Protection Affairs. She was a member of the "Armenian Revolutionary Federation" Faction.
From 2003-2007 she was a deputy in the NA (proportional system, ARF). She was a member of the NA Standing Committee on Social, Health Care and Environmental Protection Affairs. She was a member of the ARF Faction.
On May 12, 2007 she was elected as a deputy of the National Assembly by the proportional system from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation/ARF.
Ms. Petrossyan is married and has one child.
