Gagik Melikyan was born on January 1, 1960 in the town of Berd (Tavush marz).

In 1981 he graduated from the faculties financial-accounting and social professions of Yerevan Institute of National Economy. He is an economist, lawyer.

1981-1983 he served in the Soviet Army.

1983-1985 he was head of the Planning- Financial Department # 9 Construction Structure Assembling in WaterChiefConstruction. 1986-1989 he was an oversight specialist in ArmAgroIndustry Construction Department. 1989-1991 he was instructor of the Organizational Division of ACP Shamshadin Regional Council. 1991-1993 he worked as a chief accountant in the Berd Relay Factory. 1993-1995 - director of Tavush Communications. 1995-1999 he was the Manager of Tavush Branch of Armagrrobank.

1999-2003 he was a deputy of the NA from the electoral district # 74 and he was a member in the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs. He was a member of the Unity Faction.

2003-2007 he was a deputy in the NA (proportional electoral system, RPA.). He was a member of the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs. He was the secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia Faction.

On July 3, 2008 he was elected a deputy to the National Assembly by the proportional electoral system from the RPA. He is a member of RPA Faction. He is a board member of the RPA.

He is married and has three children.
