Born on 24, January 1958 in Mkhchyan village in Ararat province.
He graduated from the Yerevan Institute of National Economy.
Served in the Soviet Army.
1990-1991- Head of the division of the Burastan brandy factory
1991-1995 - Director of the Artashat wine and brandy factory
1995-1999 - Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia of the first convocation
1995-1996 - Chairman of the Artashat city council executive committee
1996-1998 - Mayor of Artashat
1998-2000 - Prefect of the Ararat province of Armenia
2000-2001 - Minister, coordinating the activity of territorial administration and urban development of the Republic of Armenia
2001-2002 - Minister of the Territorial Administration of the Republic of Armenia
2002-2005 - Minister, coordinating the activity of the territorial administration and infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia
2005-2007 - Minister of the Territorial Administration of the Republic of Armenia endowed with functions of coordinating minister
2007-2008 - Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Minister of the Territorial Administration of the Republic of Armenia
21 April, 2008 - was appointed secretary general of the presidential staff of the Republic of Armenia
24 August, 2008 - was elected member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia of the fourth convocation 5 September, 2008 - was dismissed from the position of the secretary general of the presidential staff of the Republic of Armenia by the decree of the President
29 September, 2008 - H. Abrahamyan was elected President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia of the fourth convocation
On November 21, according to his letter of resignation, the President’s authority with the National Assembly ceased.

Chairman of the State Economics University of Armenia board and member of the Yerevan State University board
Member of the Republican Party of Armenia executive body and board
H. Abrahamyan was awarded “Anania Shirakatsi” Medal, RA Prime Minister’s commemorative Medal, “Marshall Baghramyan” Medal, “Fridtjof Nansen” commemorative Gold Medal, Golden Medal of the Parliament of Greece and for rendering invaluable services to Theatrical art and on the occasion of International Theatre day Mr. Abrahamyan was awarded Golden Medal of the Theatrical Figures.
He is married and has three children and five grandchildren.
