On November 16, the RA NA deputy, member of Tsarukyan Faction Naira Zohrabyan met with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, Ambassador Urszula Gacek and political analyst Barbara Davis.
Welcoming the guests, Naira Zohrabyan highlighted the presence of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission in Armenia.
Urszula Gacek noted that the mission would assess the compliance of the elections with the OSCE obligations, the international standards for holding democratic elections, as well as the national legislation.
The observers would do monitoring of the candidates’ registration, campaign, and the works of the electoral and other state bodies, the use of the electoral legislation, the information field, and the procedures of solving the problems raised in the application-complaints. According to the Ambassador, in the future the long-term mission will begin to work with 24-person group and on the Election Day with the 300-person team, being in different electoral districts.
Naira Zohrabyan expressed regret that the parliament did not pass the amendments to the Electoral Code. She noted the targeted regions, precincts, where, according to her, some risky developments would be possible.
The MP expressed confidence that the upcoming elections would be exceptional in the history of newly independent Armenia. She has stated that there are concerns with respect to the candidates nominated through some territorial electoral rolls, who continue being led by the old way of thinking and think that they can vote with old methods.
The sides agreed to be in permanent contact, following the development of the events.
