Meetings of Delegation Led by RA NA President Begin in Germany
1 / 11

In the morning of March 18, the delegation led by the President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan being on an official visit in Germany on March 18-21, had meetings with the Vice President and members of the House of Representatives of Berlin.

In the course of the meeting Ararat Mirzoyan once again presented the changes occurred in Armenia and the agenda of the reforms being expected. The members of the delegations exchanged information about a number of spheres concerning the legislators’ work. Among other issues, Mirzoyan discussed with his colleagues the issue of including deductive materials on the Armenian Genocide in the textbooks of the schools of Berlin.

During the working dinner the Armenian delegation met with the Head of Germany-South Caucasus Parliamentary Group Johannes Kahrs and the members of the Group Albert Weiler, Steffen Kotre, Helin Evrim Sommer, Mark Helfrich, Anton Friesen and Waldemar Herdt. The representatives of the German side noted that after the Velvet Revolution the interest towards Armenia among the Bundestag members had increased, which was also boosted by the visit of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Armenia.

During the conversation Ararat Mirzoyan once again reaffirmed the foreign policy priorities of Armenia, noting that the ratification of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement by the EU Member States is of key importance for deepening relations with the European Union, which should be debated in the German Parliament on April 4 in the second reading.

The Member of the Armenian delegation Ruben Rubinyan referred to Karabakh issue, presenting the position of Armenia on the situation and reaffirming the RA position of the settlement of the issue through peaceful means within the frameworks of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs’ format.

Speaking about conflict settlements, the NA deputy Edmon Marukyan underlined the importance of the processes of democratization in the South Caucasus, hoping that the German colleagues would be more attentive towards the manifestations of human rights violations in Azerbaijan.

Touching upon the opportunities of deepening the economic relations between the two countries, the economic reforms to be expected in Armenia that would raise the economic attractiveness of our country were presented to the German parliamentarians.

After the working dinner, the delegation led by Ararat Mirzoyan laid flowers at the Memorial dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.
