On April 2, the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received Mohammed Haj Ibrahim, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to Armenia.
Welcoming the Ambassador in parliament, the Head of the legislative body has noted that the Armenian-Syrian relations of historical and cultural centuries-old traditions have great perspective of further deepening at present. Evaluating the assistance and the hospitable attitude shown by the people of Syria towards Armenians, who had survived the Genocide, the Head of the legislative body stressed that Armenia could not remain indifferent to the current realities in Syria, giving humanitarian aid to the Syrians who had suffered because of war.
In terms of the further deepening of bilateral ties, the NA President highlighted the role of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, expressing confidence that the formed Parliamentary Friendship Group would give new impetus to them.
Congratulating Ararat Mirzoyan on being elected Head of the legislative structure, Mohammed Haj Ibrahim qualified the Armenian-Syrian centuries-old relations not only friendly, but also brotherly. He has expressed his gratitude to the Armenian authorities for the humanitarian aid shown to his country, noting that this step is highly assessed by the Syrian people. The Ambassador has evaluated the role that the Syrian Armenian community has both in the life of the country and in strengthening of bilateral ties. In this context the diplomat touched upon the programme, according to which the restoration of Syria’s Armenian churches was included in his government programme.
Highly assessing the bilateral political and cultural existing close ties, the sides underlined the necessity of enlivening of the economic component in the relations and distinguished the spheres of agriculture, information technologies and education.
In the course of the meeting the interlocutors reflected upon the regional and international issues.
