Ruben Rubinyan Meets with Delegation Headed by Vice President of German Bundestag Thomas Oppermann

On June 14, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Ruben Rubinyan received the delegation headed by the Vice President of the German Bundestag Thomas Oppermann.

Welcoming the guests in the RA National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan has highly assessed the continuous development of cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Germany and has noted that similar mutual visits raise the quality of bilateral contacts to a new level for the benefit of the development of the two countries’ relations.

During the meeting the sides touched upon a number of issues of bilateral interest.

Touching upon the peaceful settlement of Karabakh problem, the Committee Chair has stated that this conflict is not merely a territorial quarrel, but the issue of the destiny of the people residing there in terms of the full realization of human rights. With regards to this Ruben Rubinyan has underlined that the solution of Artsakh status and security stems from the very abovementioned value of system logic for the Armenian side.

The Committee Chair highlighted the full involvement of Artsakh in the negotiation process for the rise of the efficiency of the ongoing negotiations for the settlement of the issue.

Regarding this Ruben Rubinyan has noted that the key for the solution of the Karabakh conflict is in Yerevan, Stepanakert and Baku, expressing hope that the European colleagues would support for the realization of the constructive logic in the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

The sides also referred to the issues of providing the atmosphere of trust in the negotiation process. Ruben Rubinyan has considered inadmissible the continuous violations along the line of contact and the provocative actions by Azerbaijan, which regularly result in the human losses, the tension of the situation, forming unfavourable environment for the negotiation process.

In the context of the peaceful settlement process of Karabakh conflict the Committee Chair also emphasized the exclusion of the bellicose rhetoric at state level and the policy of establishing red lines in practical respect, characterizing them as deconstructive steps in provision of favourable environment.

At the end of the meeting the sides also discussed other issues of further cooperation between the two countries' parliaments.
