For Having a Green Zone Capital

On September 8 at RA NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health Care and Environment the ecological situation of Yerevan was discussed with the participation of the members of Ecological alliance of the city of Yerevan. MPs Samvel Shahgaldyan and Gagik Avetyan were also attending the meeting.

During the meeting Karine Danielyan, member of “ For Sustainable Human Development” Association NGO of Yerevan, suggested discussing the issue of irrigation of green zones, problems connected with the situation of parks: accumulation of the garbage, irrigation, allocations of green zones of Yerevan and constructions. There were suggestions to restore the department on making green zones of Yerevan, concentrate the issues of preserving green zones and improving them, review the treaties on disordered zones given by rent, control the process of land allocation, revise the concept of construction of especially the center because of the loss of the green zones and carry out ecological expertise with the aim of preserving the green zones. It was also noted that “The Botanical Park” is on the brink of destruction, as the irrigation system doesn’t work in the park, unique trees are getting destroyed.

Gagik Mkheyan, Chairman of NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health Care and Environment, thanked the representatives of NGOs for actively taking part in the discussions and noted that parliamentary hearings will be held in future on the discussed issues to give possible legislative solutions to the problems. Emanating from the importance of the discussed problems it was decided to continue the discussions.
