On October 5 the delegation headed by Goran Lennmarker, OSCE PA President’s Special representative met with the members of the OSCE PA Armenian delegation in the National Assembly.
Vahan Hovhannisyan, Head of the OSCE PA Armenian
delegation, NA Vice Speaker noted Mr. Lennmarker’s report on Karabakh in OSCE PA Washington session arose a serious interest in the societies of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and it was evident that the proposals complying with the brave and in time changes of the report, in one hand, are attractive, on the other hand, arise additional cautiousness, which can be considered a high estimation for the report. In the result of our campaign work, the report had a rather positive response in the society of Armenia. There are no political forces in Armenia, who aren’t aware of the necessity of bilateral compromises on the final solution of the Artsakh key problem. It’s difficult to find a political force that will be ready for mutual, adequate compromises, according to Mr. Hovhannisyan, the search of such political force highly estimated the direct negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Brussels by Goran Lennmarker’s initiative, as well as the meeting of the delegations and representatives of OSCE Minsk Group in Washington. It was opined that the work should have continuation.
Accepting as basis Mr. Lennmarker’s studies with his heading and with the participation of the Armenian and Azeri sides, as well as the OSCE PA MPS being well aware of the conflict, Mr. Hovhannisyan proposed to create a temporary working group, which will work on the joint wording. The experience showed that the presentation of the wording by any of the sides of the conflict on the conflict issues is not expedient, so the Armenian side emanating from the moral and political considerations remained abstentious by proposing such wording. Mr. Hovhannisyan also proposed on the eve of Vienna summit to jointly discuss with two delegations the matter of coming to agreement on creating the wording, which can be considered the first agreed step by EU new neighbours.
Mr. Lennmarker gladly accepted Mr. Hovhannisyan’s proposals and noted that this golden opportunity should be used by the MPs. Elaborating on Turkey-EU relations, as Mr. Lennmarker estimated, Turkey-EU negotiations will be positive also for Armenia, and regarding the blockade of Armenia by Turkey, Mr. Lennmarker expressedconviction that Turkey should open borders, the ideology of the European Union are the open borders.
During the meeting issues referring to the further cooperation and other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
