Amendments to Tax Code
1 / 20

At April 28 NA extraordinary sitting, the draft law on Amending the RA Tax Code authored by the deputies of My Step Faction Sisak Gabrielyan, Alen Simonyan, Babken Tunyan and Karen Hambardzumyan was debated.

The key rapporteur Sisak Gabrielyan has noted that the proposed amendments try to abolish the privilege given to one person by law at the time: “It refers to the fact that there is only one customs-controlled area in the privileged zone up to 1 km away from the customs check point of Meghri city. The cars which enter the zone from the Islamic Republic of Iran are exempted from road tax.”

According to statistical data, this privilege of road tax set by the RA Tax Code does not serve its purpose, moreover, it creates unequal competitive conditions among businesses. It has been stated that a number of factories insist that it is psychically impossible to build an additional warehouse. According to the SRC data, only 10-15% of trucks entering Armenia are unloaded at that warehouse, and about 85% of the remaining trucks, in most cases transporting the same goods, pay an additional road tax from 110 to 152 thousand AMD, which naturally increases the cost of imported goods.

In their questions, the deputies related to the political purpose of such legislative amendments ahead of the elections, the statistical data of the committed violations and the clarification of the amount of damage inflicted on the state.
