At May 20 sitting of RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, the RA First Deputy of Kristinne Grigoryan presented for the Committee members’ debate the draft law on Ratifying the Protocol Amending the Convention n for the Protection of Individuals with Regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data. The protocol was signed on 10 October 2018, and was signed by 41 states and ratified by 5 states.

“The Protocol amends the Convention signed in Strasbourg on 28 January 1981, which the RA signed on 9 May 2012. Being signed almost 40 years ago, the Convention with its certain regulations does not correspond to the challenges emerging in the modern world as a consequence of the automatic processing of personal data, which in its turn brings necessity of editing numerous provisions. Ratifying it, Armenia will reapprove its fame of the country conscientiously of effective cooperation implementing and assuming obligations in the frameworks of the Council of Europe,” Kristinne Grigoryan said. The Protocol was signed on 2 October 2019 by the Republic of Armenia.

Kristinne Grigoryan also touched upon the current situation and activities of the Personal Data Protection Agency.

As the co-rapporteur Vladimir Vardanyan has informed that in the treaty context there are incorrect data, and it does not reflect the English original. He proposed the attendees to send the text for revision.

The draft law was endorsed.
