Ambassador of Estonia in RA Parliament

On June 15, the deputy of the RA NA My Step Faction, the member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, the Head of Armenia-Estonia Friendship Group Anush Begloian met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Armenia Riina Kaljurand.

Welcoming the Ambassador in the parliament, Anush Begloian highlighted the deepening of the Armenian-Estonian relations and the further development of the inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The MP touched upon the holding of the extraordinary parliamentary elections, presented the amendments made in the Electoral Code, underlining that they received positive response on them also from the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe/CoE. To her observation, the upcoming elections are considered to be a competition of political programmes, but not of individuals.

Anush Begloian thanked the parliament of Estonia, the Friendship Group for presenting distinct positions on the return of the prisoners of war, the encroachments of Azerbaijan towards the sovereign territory of Armenia.

The Head of the Friendship Group has raised the issue of keeping the Armenian captives as hostages, noting that it is a gross violation of the international humanitarian law. The issue of preservation of the Armenian cultural and spiritual monuments was also referred to, and the stressed attitude and the practical steps of the international community and the friendly countries.

The deputy also expressed her gratitude the Council of Europe for making a number of statements in the created situation.

Regarding the issue of demarcation of the border caused between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the sides emphasized the involvement of the observers representing the OSCE Minsk Group also in this process.
