Arrest Order to Be Specified
1 / 2

On June 30, the National Assembly debated in the second reading the draft law on Making Amendments and Addenda to the RA Criminal Procedure Code authored by the deputies of the NA My Step Faction Nikolay Baghdasaryan, Vahagn Hovakimyan and Viktor Yengibaryan. As the rapporteur Nikolay Baghdasaryan informed, during the period from the first to the second reading the draft law had not been amended without proposals. The draft law relates to the arrest issue: the arrest bases are expanded, and the arrest order is specified. According to the authors, during the last period such a practice has been formed that the courts recognize the arrest protocols on almost all cases illegal and release the suspects, giving the reason that legal bases lack by the RA Criminal Procedure Code.

In the MPs’ opinion, such phenomenon can result in the criminality growth. The mentioned problems is designed to regulate by the RA Criminal Procedure new draft law, but the authors believe that there is need to make enter the relevant chapter of that draft law earlier.

The NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and the Government endorsed the draft law.
