On August 2, during the first session of the RA NA eighth convocation, the voting for the election of the NA President was held.

All three factions nominated candidates for the post of the NA President.

The NA Armenia Faction nominated the deputy of Armenia Faction Mkhitar Zakaryan as a candidate, and the NA I Have Honor Faction – the candidacy of the deputy from Armenia Faction Artur Sargsyan. The NA Civil Contract Faction nominated Alen Simonyan as a candidate.

The Chairman of the NA Counting Commission Narek Babayan informed that the voting was held by secret ballot and where 71 out of 107 NA deputies took part. Opening the ballot box, the Counting Commission found out that all 71 deputies who took part in the voting, gave their votes to Alen Simonyan as a candidate. So, Alen Simonyan was elected as President of the National Assembly of the NA eighth convocation.

Alen Simonyan thanked his colleagues for the high trust given to him in the post of the NA President.

The National Assembly will continue the works on August 3.
