Parliament Elects Chairs of Standing Committees

On August 9, the work of the first session of the NA eighth convocation continued. The MPs carried on with debating the item on the election of the Chairs of the NA Standing Committees. It should be noted that the Civil Contract Faction would nominate the Chairs of 9 NA Committees by the D’Hondt method, the Armenia Faction - 3.

The deputy Arpine Davoyan informed that the Civil Contract Faction nominated Vladimir Vardanyan as a candidate to be elected for the post of the Chair of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. Arpine Davoyan presented the candidate’s biography and work experience. Vladimir Vardanyan is a candidate for law and expert on international law. Besides his professional work, he also worked as a lecturer. He is an author of one monograph and more than 30 scientific articles.

Vladimir Vardanyan thanked for nominating him as a candidate for that responsible post, noting that he also headed that important and overloaded committee in the seventh convocation of the National Assembly. The candidate referred to the problems of the judicial system, spoke about the need to reform the sphere and mentioned his vision of the work. Vladimir Vardanyan touched upon the works of the Standing Committee too, which should be continued.

“Due to our joint work, it will be possible to ensure a good level in the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs,” particularly addressing the opposition partners, Vladimir Vardanyan summarized the word.

Vladimir Vardanyan answered to the deputies’ various questions. The election of the candidate will be held after the debate of the candidacies of the Chairs of the other Committees.

The MP Zemfira Mirzoeva proposed the Parliament to observe one minute of silence in memory of the Assyrians who had been victims of genocide. It should be noted that the Remembrance Day is marked on August 7.

The NA President Alen Simonyan informed that he would initiate meetings with the national minorities represented in the National Assembly.
