On November 1, the President of the RA National Assembly Alen Simonyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to the RA Alfonso Di Riso.

Welcoming the Ambassador, the NA President highly assessed the Armenian-Italian relations in all spheres, expressing confidence that the Ambassador’s mission would give new impetus to the friendly ties.

At the meeting, the inter-parliamentary multi-lateral cooperation, to which the effective collaboration of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups would be contributed to, was highlighted. In this context the programmes of the Armenian-Italian Friendship Group formed in the National Assembly were touched upon.

Thanking for the reception, the Ambassador considered remarkable the implementation of the Armenian-Italian parliamentary agendas.

The sides discussed the issue of the necessity of urgently returning Armenian prisoners of war and other persons being kept in Azerbaijan to the homeland. Alen Simonyan underlined with gratitude the importance of the resolution adopted by the Chamber of Deputies of Italy, which called on Azerbaijan to release Armenian prisoners of war.

At the meeting the Armenian-Italian effective cooperation within the framework of the Twinning Project being financed by the European Union was recorded.
