On December 9, the National Assembly debated in the first reading the legislative package on Making Addenda to the Law on Rights of Persons with Disabilities and on Making Addenda and Amendment to the Law on Assessment of Person’s Functionality.

The RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan has noted that the regulations are of technical nature. The proposed amendments will give opportunity to carry out the disability assessment process with existing mechanisms and standards before the introduction of the new system to assess a person’s functionality. In parallel with it, appropriate works will be done for effectively introducing the assessment system of a person’s functionality. The provision of supportive means will become more targeted. According to the Deputy Minister, it will give opportunity to about 200.000 citizens with disabilities to exercise their rights. She highlighted the right assessment of the process and the efficient provision of services.

Presenting the positive conclusion of the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs, Lilit Stepanyan has noted that the proposed regulation will give opportunity to the united social service to provide medical and social services. According to the deputy, in the near future, in parallel with the expansion of medical and social services, there will be a necessity to have new specialists in current professional groups to provide more targeted service.
