Work Discussion on Amendments and Addenda Being Proposed to Law on Defense

On February 21, the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security convened a working sitting moderated by Andranik Kocharyan to discuss the amendments and addenda being proposed to the law on Defense.

According to the Committee Chair Andranik Kocharyan, a new launch is given to new reforms with legislative amendments. The Committee Chair expressed conviction that the result of these amendments in the armed forces should be visible, and learning lessons from the past the vision of the professional army should be distinctly given.

The Head of the Legal Department of the RA Ministry of Defence Sasun Simonyan presented the framework of the main reforms. They relate to the authorities of the Government in the sphere of defense, the powers of the RA Security Council, the specification of the authorities of the RA Prime Minister, the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense and of the Armed Forces.

In their interpellations and speeches, the deputies of the NA Civil Contract and the opposition Armenia and With Honor factions and the experts of the Committee touched upon the purposefulness of the legislative regulations, presented proposals particularly on the authorities of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Ministry and the General Staff, the powers of the Security Council, the importance of the information security plan and other issues.

Before discussing the legislative initiative in the Head Committee, such work discussions will be continuous.
