On February 24, the Co-Chairs of Armenia-EU Parliamentary Partnership Committee (PPC) Arman Yeghoyan and Marina Kaljurand summed the works of the Second Meeting of the Armenia-EU Parliamentary Partnership Committee held in Yerevan summed up at the press conference.

Arman Yeghoyan informed that issues on reforms in Armenia, security and stability in the region in the context of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict were discussed.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration thanked Marina Kaljurand for the expressing distinct and unbiased position in the important issues for the region and Armenia. He informed that the next meeting of the Committee will be held in 2023. The Armenian side will be hosted in Brussels or Strasbourg, and before that those works will continue in other formats.

The Co-Chair of Armenia-EU Parliamentary Partnership Committee Marina Kaljurand thanked the Armenian side for the warm reception, noting that she visited Armenia last time about 40 years ago.

February 24 is a symbolic day for Marina Kaljurand: Estonia celebrates Independence Day, and she is proud of being a citizen of independent Estonia. Marina Kaljurand noted with regret that this day was marked with the beginning of military actions on the territory of Ukraine.

According to her, Armenia has been in war situation, hence the Armenian people understand very well that the war can never be a solution.

“We have spoken about the situation of the Nagorno Karabakh, and I can say that the war is never a solution. The solution of the problem should be as a result of negotiations under the auspice of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs,” she said.

During the meeting the issue of the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war being in Azerbaijan, as well as the persons held in prisons there was also discussed. Kaljurand has assured that they are going to raise that issue so far until the last citizen of Armenia has not returned to Armenia.

The protection of the cultural heritage of Artsakh, the Armenian-Turkish relations, the reopening of the means of communication was also touched upon.

Marina Kaljurand expressed readiness for showing support to Armenia in the process of the reforms on the way of democracy.
