On February 28, the Head of the RA NA Armenia Faction Seyran Ohanyan met with the delegation led the Special Envoy of Canada to the European Union and Europe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Germany Stéphane Dion.
Ambassador Stéphane Dion has noted that with the support of Parliament of Canada a program is designed to implement in Parliament of Armenia, which is aimed at enhancing democracy of parliament and having more secure country. One of the goals of the program is to have a staff, which will be non-partisan and will serve for the interests of the power and the opposition. It has been noted that on this occasion research works have been done beforehand.
The Ambassador was interested in the opinion of the Armenia Faction on implementing the program in the upcoming five years.
The Head of the Faction positively assessed the implementation of such programs, which are directed to the development of democratic institutes. He has highlighted the presence of the employees with long-term experience in parliament and has also indicated the problems noticed by him, which impede the democracy.
Seyran Ohanyan emphasized the bilateral and multi-lateral relations with Armenia and Canada, the European Union, as well as the European countries, taking into consideration that the democracy, the gender equality, the protection of human rights and security, peace and other issues are on their basis.
With regards to the consequences of the 44-day war unleashed against Artsakh by Azerbaijan, the Head of the Faction attached importance to voicing of targeted assessments by the international community and the right and full response to the committed crimes. “After war the rhetoric of Azerbaijan and Turkey and the crimes committed by them towards the borders of the Republic of Armenia and invasion of our borders should be worthy evaluated in a way, as today the European whole community tries to respond to the situation in Ukraine,” Seyran Ohanyan said.
Touching upon the parliamentary government system, Seyran Ohanyan has noted that there is need making reforms.
