On February 28, the Head of With Honor Faction of the RA National Assembly Artur Vanetsyan and the Secretary of the Faction Hayk Mamijanyan met with the delegation led by the Special Envoy of Canada to the European Union and Europe, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Federal Republic of Germany Stéphane Dion.

Referring to the purposes of the visit, Stéphane Dion noted that in the past five years the Parliamentary Centre of Canada has worked with the National Assembly, aimed at supporting the development of parliamentary democracy in Armenia. The structure worked in parliament to develop a strategic plan, the implementation of which will contribute to the improvement of the professionalism and the efficiency of the Staff.

“Does With Honor Faction consider it expedient to continue the program, and what problems do they see?” the Ambassador was inquired. He highlighted the opinion and the assistance of the faction in that issue.

In this context, Stéphane Dion stated: “It will be a great achievement for us if Canada can support the Armenian Parliament, so that the activities of its Staff are at a high professional level and impartial.”

Artur Vanetsyan informed that he considers important the implementation of any program that can promote the development of the democratic institutions of the country and the increase of their efficiency.

The Head of the Faction also touched upon the circumstance that the Armenian parliament was formed in unusual conditions, the violations of the basic principles of human rights. According to him, the democratic institutions in Armenia either do not function or function in their own way.
