On March 3, the parliament continued the work of the regular sittings.

The Chairman of the NA Counting Commission Narek Babayan presented the results of the first phase of the election of the President of the Republic.

69 deputies took part in the voting of the election of the candidate for the President of the Republic Vahagn Khchaturyan, there were no invalid ballot papers, 69 deputies voted for him.

As the NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan has presented, according to the RA Constitutional Law the Rules of the Procedure of the National Assembly, if President of the Republic is not elected through the first round, then the second round of the election is held, where all the candidates that have taken part in the first round, can participate.

The Head of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan presented the candidate for the President of the Republic.

The candidate for the President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan has noted that the institute of the RA President shall carry out monitoring on all spheres of the public administration and the activity of all wings of the power and be submitted to the community. He touched upon his vision regarding the functions of the President of the Republic.

Highlighting the role of parliament, the President’s candidate has noted that the joint, harmonious work of the institute of the National Assembly, the Government and the President will promote ensuring the lasting development of our country.

On behalf of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction the Head of the Faction Hayk Konjoryan has stated that one of the important political events of the state, the issue of the election for the President of the Republic is debated in parliament in the conditions of the opposition’s absence. He has underlined that the election of the President of the Republic is legitimate. According to him, the citizens who elected the opposition are not presented in the most important political process of the Republic of Armenia. According to him, the opposition does not take part in the works of the Inquiry Committee for Studying the Circumstances of the Hostilities Unleashed on September 27, 2020, do not represent the interest of Armenia on the international platforms. Addressing the citizens that voted for the opposition, he asked if they wanted not to use the real force of the mandate for the sake of the state.

Hayk Konjoryan noted that the parliamentary majority would work with the President’s institute simultaneously and effectively, and everything would be done for the establishment of the democratic institutes in the Republic of Armenia.

In his concluding speech Vahagn Khachaturyan thanked the deputies of the Civil Contract Faction for the shown trust and readiness to jointly work.
