Ministry of Justice Carries Out Large-Scale Work in Anti-Corruption Sphere

At March 14 regular sitting, the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs debated the Report on Implementation Process and Results of the RA Government Programme for 2021 (2021-2026) approved by the N 234-A Decision of the RA Government on February 28, 2022. The Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan referred to the circles related to the fight against corruption and the work done in the sphere.

The Minister noted that although the Ministry does not carry out anti-corruption work, nevertheless it did huge work in 2021 to introduce and develop an anti-corruption system. The Ministry supported the Corruption Prevention Commission with the development of the legislation and organizational work, contributed to the increase of the number of declarant high-ranking officials under the Corruption Prevention Commission, from 3.200 to 9.000. In the reporting year, the work to establish the Anti-Corruption Committee has started, the legislative base of which was also developed by the Ministry.

“We already see the results in the form of separate, concrete cases in 2022. It is also very important in this issue to create separate units in the Prosecutor General’s Office, the relevant anti-corruption subdivision, as well as the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin,” the Minister said. According to Karen Andreasyan, the Ministry also did huge work in the creation of anti-corruption courts.

The Minister also informed that the number of judges, court staff and equipment has increased. Judges’ salaries have been increased by 50-70%, digitization works have been carried out. Alternative measures were taken to unload the courts, as a result of which the judges’ workload was somewhat reduced. In 2021, the Ministry submitted 19 petitions for disciplinary proceedings to the Supreme Judicial Council, 5 out of which were satisfied.
