At March 16 sitting, the RA NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Protection debated in the second reading the package of draft laws on Mercury and the enclosed ones authored by the Government.

According to the RA Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan, the proposed amendments are conditioned by the Minamata Convention on Mercury ratified in 2017, after joining the Convention in 2020, Armenia undertook to limit the production, import and export of mercury additive products.

As the key rapporteur said, certain addenda were made to the package of draft laws in the period of the first to the second reading.

The RA Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan also presented to the Committee members in the second reading the package of draft laws on Making Amendments and Addenda to the RA Law on Fauna for debate. According to the key rapporteur, the proposed legislative amendments will contribute to the reduction of administration and the comprehensive regulation of the use of fauna in the Republic of Armenia.

The packages of revised draft laws were endorsed.
