Armenia and Bulgaria Within the Scope of Common Interests

On February 13 Artur Baghdasaryan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia had a private talk with Georgi Pirinski, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, who is on an official visit in Armenia. In the atmosphere of full understanding the problems of cooperation over the exchange of political, inter-parliamentary, legislative experience were discussed. Both sides highlighted especially the problems of transport cooperation, in the solutions of which the two parliaments can participate.

An agreement was reached on organizing a conference devoted to transport problems of Armenia-Bulgaria-Adriatic Sea and Danube countries under the aegis of two parliaments in the summer of 2006. During the meeting the issues of continuing inter-regional cooperation and strengthening scientific-educational and educational-cultural ties were also discussed. Both sides also touched upon the necessity of inter-party formation ties.

After the private talk of the Presidents of the two parliaments the parliamentary delegation headed by Georgi Pirinski, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria met with Committee Chairpersons, heads of group-factions of the National Assembly.

The NA President Artur Baghdasaryan noted with satisfaction the developing relations of the two countries expressing conviction that Mr. Pirinski’s visit will be an impetus in strengthening the Armenian-Bulgarian partnership, activating the political dialogue. The RA NA President Artur Baghdasaryan highlighted the Armenian-Bulgarian relations in the political, economic and educational-cultural aspects.

The deepening of inter-parliamentary relations, cooperation in international structures and the use of the Bulgarian experience on the road of Euro integration of Armenia were highlighted. The NA President noted the necessity of cooperation in the sphere of transport, which will promote the deepening of economic relations and proposed to organize discussions on this issue with the participation of the parliamentarians of two countries in summer. The sides noted to establish also cultural centers in Sofia and in Yerevan.

The NA President noted that the two countries have potential of goods turnover growth and proposed to develop the cooperation between the regions of two countries, indicating the succeeded cooperation of Gyumri and Plovdiv cities, which is one of the results of the official visit of the Parliament President of Armenia, when an agreement was signed on friendly relations and cooperation between the Plovdiv community and city of Gyumri of Shirak marz.

Georgi Pirinski, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, highly evaluated the level of the relations of two countries and parliaments, noting that RA NA President Artur Baghdasaryan’s official visit to the Republic of Bulgaria in 2004 greatly contributed to the deepening of partnership. Mr, Pirinski also highlighted the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, partnership in the spheres of economy, science and culture, highlighted the regional cooperation. The Parliament President of Bulgaria responded with satisfaction to the proposal of the exchange of experience, developing relations at the level of committees. It was noted that the Bulgarian Parliament ratified the Consular Convention between RA and Republic of Bulgaria, which the Parliament of Armenia ratified on April 26, 2004, and which facilitates the exit and entry visas of some groups of citizens.

Mr. Pirinski invited the NA President Artur Baghdasaryan to Bulgaria on an official visit in order to sum up the discussions continued in Yerevan.

In the atmosphere of understanding both sides discussed  issues of bilateral interest too.
