We Expect that the Problem Will Be Eliminated in the Shortest Term, And the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Will Return to Their Starting Points: Eduard Aghajanyan
1 / 1

On March 25, the meeting of the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan with the journalists accredited in parliament was held.

The representatives of the mass media were interested in the situation in Artsakh.

According to Eduard Aghajanyan, what is happening in Artsakh is the regular manifestation of depriving the right to living of the Artsakh Armenians in their Motherland and the ethnic cleansing of the Nagorno Karabakh Armenians being persistently carried out by Azerbaijan. The deputy has added that we have witnessed that approach from the beginning of the conflict, but in the recent period and in the post-war period that process has obtained a special and practical character. The RA authorities repeatedly informed and alarmed to the international community. The evaluation of the process was reiterated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Head of the Republic of Armenia and the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.

“The created situation is the regular violation of the obligations stemming from the November 9 trilateral statement, assumed by the latter. In particular, it is about the paragraph that the parties are obliged to stop the military actions, remain on the same positions, and be deploys along that borderline (also the Russian border guards should be deployed,” the deputy said.

Eduard Aghajanyan informed that in the abovementioned part there was frontline, and we should clarify from the Russian peacekeepers in what conditions that advancement took place, as because of the advancement, the Azerbaijanis appeared in the rear of the Russian peacekeepers, i.e. they bypassed them. That part is in the zone of the Russian peacekeepers’ responsibility, and the Armenian side expects from the Russian counterparts to get distinct answers: in what conditions it has taken place?

“We expect that this problem will be eliminated in the shortest terms, and the Azerbaijani armed forces will return to starting points. The Parukh village appeared in the rear of the Azerbaijani forces, and they occupied a number of positions, probably Karaglukh. The Armenian side has wounded, the Azerbaijani side used the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV): bayraktars, and the positions of the Defense Army were pierced. It is about the escalation process, related to which our questions of priority are addressed to the Russian counterparts, as in the zone of responsibility, where these processes are taking place, they are supposed to be excluded through the Russian peacekeepers,” Eduard Aghajanyan noted.

Regarding the message spread by the U.S. Embassy, which calls on the sides for communication, Eduard Aghajanyan has noted that there have been formats of direct communication with the Azerbaijani side, but practically it has not changed anything.

“This is practically a path taking to a deadlock, as the Azerbaijani side repeatedly announced in public that there does not exist any Karabakh issue or conflict for them: the problem is resolved, and hence, there is no need or expediency for negotiation related to that. Whereas, the position of the Armenian side diametrically differs,” the deputy underscored.

According to Eduard Aghajanyan, that is the reason that there is permanently the third side in all processes and negotiations, which definitely raises the responsibility of the sides.

“The solution of the situation stems from the interests of the Armenian side that the peacekeepers really ensure the security of the Artsakh Armenians and don’t let similar provocations,” Eduard Aghajanyan has stressed and has documented that the Armenian side is ready to do the maximum supporting the latter in any format.

According to the Committee Chair, the Armenian side has always been a partner with the ally Russia at all levels, especially in the situation created around Artsakh. In that territory Russia is the warrant of security for the Armenian population.

The MP, nevertheless, recorded that there had not sounded any official position on the created situation from the Russian side and expressed hope that there would be in the near future. “It is desirable that we’ll be the witness of the position after the practical resolution of the situation, when the Azerbaijani armed forces will return to their starting points,” he said.
