Opposition will Not Take Part in Work of Regular Sittings
1 / 1

On April 12, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia began the work of the regular sittings. The draft law on Making Amendments to the RA Law on Minimum Monthly Salary, which was authored by the Armenia Faction and was not endorsed in the Head Committee, was put to a vote in order to be included in the agenda of the session. The initiative did not receive sufficient number of votes and was not included in the agenda of the session.

The Head of the Armenia Faction Seyran Ohanyan and the Secretary of With Honor Faction Hayk Mamijanyan informed that the parliamentary opposition will not take part in the work of the NA regular sittings convened today.

The decision of the opposition on not taking part in the sittings is conditioned by a number of circumstances, which are related to Artsakh and the processes held around it.

Seyran Ohanyan and Hayk Mamijanyan said that today, the opposition deputies intend to leave for Artsakh and the border regions of Armenia to be with their compatriots. After the speeches, the opposition deputies left the session hall.

The NA President Alen Simonyan referred to such a step of the opposition, trying to understand, if the opposition does not function in parliament, why do they receive a salary, why do they not terminate the mandates?

In his speech, the Head of the Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan also referred to such a decision and working style of the opposition.

“With this step, the parliamentary opposition does not defend Artsakh, but provokes, exacerbates the security issues of Artsakh and the Armenians. The parliamentary opposition again uses the Artsakh issue and our security issues to seize power in Armenia and carry out a coup, and it is a vivid proof of that. Today, they are digging into the internal political life of Artsakh to generate another internal political and intra-Armenian intrigues,” he said.

Other deputies of the Civil Contract Faction also gave speeches, after which the parliament approved the agendas of the session and the regular sittings.
