In 2021, the challenges of the pandemic continued both around the world and in Armenia. The Government has pursued a balanced policy to meet these challenges and mitigate its impact as much as possible, on the one hand by curbing the spread of infection, preventing the disease with vaccines and providing high-quality medical care for our citizens, on the other hand by avoiding economic restrictions: refrained from the lockdowns. The Minister of Health of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan noted about it during the debate of the report on the implementation process and the results of 2021 of the Government programme for 2021-2026.

In 2021, the most important commitment of the Government was also to provide full medical care to soldiers wounded during the war, including in foreign medical centers.

The Minister informed that a number of regional polyclinics were replenished with X-ray equipment and a number of other important items for the first time.

“Within the framework of free and privileged medical services guaranteed by the state, the provision of surgical, non-surgical services for oncological diseases, the urgent cardiac surgery service, and the process of transporting patients by helicopter by the “Fast Response” service of outbound emergency medical care have continued,” the rapporteur noted. She considered the opportunities to use medical aid of assisted reproductive technologies as an important achievement for families, individuals suffering from infertility.

“I should happily note that according to the program, 76 children were born in 2021, and already 21 children in 2022,” Anahit Avanesyan stated.

The palliative service for children with cancer was established for the first time in Armenia, psychiatric inpatient unit for children with 12 beds was opened. A children’s rehabilitation center was opened in Sevan.
