The Rights of the Residents of the Border Communities and the Artsakh Armenians are of Priority for Me: Taguhi Tovmasyan to the Ambassador of the Netherlands
1 / 3

The rapprochement of the relations between the parliaments of Armenia and the Netherlands is important, I am ready to promote that process within the framework of my powers: the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights Taghi Tovmasyan voiced about that at the meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia Nico Schermers.

Presenting the spheres of the activities of the Committee led by her, Taguhi Tovmasyan has noted that especially after war the rights of the residents of the border communities and the Artsakh Armenians, which are regularly violated, and the people are deprived of the right to live in their homeland, are of priority for her. The Committee Chair has informed that she regularly sends letters to the Embassies and the international structures, expecting public responses related to those cases. To her assessment, the response of the latter is sobering. Taguhi Tovmasyan has underlined that the issues relating to the servicemen’s rights are also in the centre of her attention, and connected with that she initiates legislative amendments in that sphere.

The sides discussed the possibilities of cooperation within the framework of different programmes. In terms of the study of the international work experience Taguhi Tovmasyan highlighted the programmes of the exchange of experience for the deputies, the NA experts, as well as the journalists. She singled out the importance of the programmes being implemented in the border communities. Nico Schermers in his turn has informed that the Embassy gives programme priority to the rule of law, the human rights and democracy. The Ambassador presented details over the planning programmes in the near future and the process of their implementation.
