1 / 10

“The Government, together with the Civil Contract faction, is carrying out large-scale reforms in three areas – the Police, the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces,” the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said during his speech at the parliamentary hearings organized by the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security on the topic Regarding the process of creation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Secretary of the Security Council informed that in the context of these reforms it is planned to create a separate foreign intelligence agency. The Security Council Bureau has already started discussions with colleagues on the issue of forming a new structure. “I want to say that the Police reforms should be considered in this broad context, and the democratic concept is based on it. Since 2018, the Government has started the process of democratization of the security sector, which is also important from the point of view of security, stability and increasing our capabilities,” Armen Grigoryan said.

From the point of view of the overall security system, the Secretary of the Security Council highlighted the merging of the functions of the Police and the Ministry of Emergency Situations into one ministry.
