Committee Endorses Draft Laws: Students of educational institutions implementing a special program will be provided with textbooks at the expense of state funds

If the law is adopted, legal foundations will be created, as a result of which students of all classes of educational institutions implementing a special program will be provided with textbooks and other materials necessary for learning at the expense of state funds, and in order to receive targeted funding from the state budget to provide reasonable accommodations in the process of organizing the education of people with special educational needs, including those with disabilities in pre-school, general education, primary (handicraft) and secondary vocational educational institutions.

The draft law on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Law on Education authored by the MP Zaruhi Batoyan was debated in the second reading at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport on October 21.

No substantive amendments were made during the first to the second reading. The Committee endorsed the draft law.

The draft law on Making Amendments and Addendum to the Law on Audiovisual Media authored by Zaruhi Batoyan was debated in the second reading with the related legislative package. If the law is adopted, legal foundations will be created in order to expand the volume of programs broadcast in Armenian sign language and with subtitles, additional obligations will be imposed on public broadcasters, the concept “sign language” will be defined by law.

This draft law was also not subject to substantive amendments after being adopted in the first reading.

The Committee endorsed the draft.

The legislative initiatives will be debated during the upcoming regular sittings of the National Assembly.
