Executive Body Proposes Amendments to Law on Energy
1 / 3

The new model of the wholesale electricity market launched on February 1, 2022 assumes that one of the generating stations in the electricity system should provide a balancing service to the rest of the market participants.

“Due to the specifics of the new model of the electricity market, it was necessary to make appropriate amendments to the Law on Energy,” the RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan said at the NA sitting on November 15. The initiative authored by the Government was debated in the first reading.

Currently, the provision of electric vehicle charging service is mainly carried out through electric power transmission by the consumer to another person. In order to fix the mentioned process, i.e., the basis of transfer, it was necessary to make an amendment to the Law on Energy.

“The Standing (Head) Committee on Economic Affairs endorsed the draft,” the member of the Committee Karen Hambardzumyan informed about this. According to the MP, as a result of the amendments, the trade mechanisms in the balancing market, functions providing balancing services and cases of electric power transmission will be clarified.
