Voting of NA Draft Statement Authored by Armenia Faction Postponed
1 / 12

Armenia should express its support to the actions, which are aimed at deblockading of Artsakh: the deputy of the Armenia Faction, the key rapporteur Andranik Tevanyan said about this at the regular sitting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations on January 13. The draft statement The Statement of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on Regularly Closing the Lachin Corridor was debated.

The deputy noted that the Agreement of November 9, 2020 is violated by Azerbaijan. As he assured, the Russian peacekeepers should make all efforts for opening the Lachin Corridor. According to the key rapporteur, Armenia should be consistent for the recognition of the right to self-determination of the Nagorno Karabakh people.

The co-rapporteur deputy Maria Karapetyan noted that the text statement adopted by the RA NA on December 14, 2022 continues to be in force, and it expressed the position, the political assessments, the demands and calls of the National Assembly. The deputy informed about the procedure that at the NA Council sitting of December 14, the representatives of the opposition were proposed to compare the texts authored by them and the Civil Contract Faction and come to a common conclusion, adopting the text statement unanimously, however the proposal was rejected by the opposition deputies, and they left session hall during the extraordinary sitting. The deputy called on the Committee members to vote against the text statement.

The deputy of the Armenia Faction Armen Rustamyan called on the deputies to fight for the right to the self-determination of the Artsakh people, as it is the goal of their fight. “Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora should fight together for carrying out the will of the Artsakh people,” he said.

The Committee Chair Eduard Aghajanyan, touching upon the statement of December 14, noted: “The Civil Contract has never had pretention that only as a result of the adoption of the statement, the Lachin Corridor will be opened, unlike your political force, which regularly insists that as a result of the change of position: that is in case of the adoption of the statement brought forth, in fact, the Corridor will be opened.”

In his final speech the key rapporteur Andranik Tevanyan proposed the deputies to postpone the voting of the draft for revising it.
