Government Proposes to Include Also Military Games in the List of Awarding Sports and Events
1 / 3

The Government proposes to solve three most important problems with the addenda and amendments to the law on Physical Culture and Sport. The first is underlining the importance of military games. According to the Deputy of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Karen Giloyan, they are authoritative competitions, where up to 200 countries sometimes take part: they are the most massive competitions after the Olympic games. The Deputy Minister clarified that the army games are not included in the list of the events receiving one-time bonus, and the national teams regularly send the second, third numbers to the army games, leaving the strong ones for preparing them and taking part in the championships of Europe or the world. “We think that in the games being held with the participation of 200 countries the first numbers should take part and we should do our best that the athletes will be concerned to take part in those games,” he said. In this context it is proposed to include those games in the list of the awarding sport events. In case of success the athletes will receive bonus, from the world and European championships, as they receive from the student’s or Olympic Games.

Authorizing norm is created by the next regulation which will give an opportunity to the Government to more easily implement the programmes. The Deputy Minister clarified that, for example, with Paris 24 project implemented last year additional payment or allowance was appointed to the athletes, their personal coaches, the head and senior coaches, doctors and masseurs. “Due to this also we had glorious successes, and our athletes in the junior, youth and adult World and European championships won 307 medals. That authorizing norm will allow implementing such programmes more,” Karen Giloyan said.

The annual programmes will be approved with the next amendment not by the decision of the Government, but also by the authorizing body.

The Chair of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Sisak Gabielyan presented the endorsement of the Committee.
