Taguhi Tovmasyan Meets with UN Representatives: The Decision of the Court Has Binding Force and They Create International Legal Obligations for Azerbaijan

In parliament the Chair of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Taguhi Tovmasyan hosted Niels Scott, the United Nations Resident Coordinator a.i. and. Arevik Anapiosyan, Partnerships and Development Finance Officer at the UN Armenia.

The Decision by the International Court of Justice published on February 22, 2023 was the core topic of the discussion, according to which , the ICJ obliged Azerbaijan pending the final decision in the case of Armenia v. Azerbaijan to take all measures at its disposal to ensure unimpeded movement of persons, vehicles and cargo along the Lachin Corridor in both directions.

The sides emphasized that the Decision of the Court on indicating interim measures has binding force and they create international legal obligations for Azerbaijan.

“W e highlighted the fact that despite its binding nature, ICJ’s order has yet not been implemented by Azerbaijan, ” the MP added.

Taguhi Tovmasyan also discussed the enhancement of collaboration with the UN Armenia and stressed the importance of implementing joint projects in the spheres of the activities of the Committee.
