Draft Does Not Get Necessary Number of Votes in Favour as a Result of Voting
1 / 4

On the agenda of the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations held on March 16 was the voting of the RA NA statement regarding the regular closing of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan authored by the NA Armenia Faction. The statement was debated on January 13. The voting was postponed for up to two months.

The key rapporteur Andranik Tevanyan informed that the Faction has revised the statement text, which, among other provisions, strongly condemns the provocative steps taken by Azerbaijan to close the Lachin Corridor connecting Armenia and Artsakh on December 3 and 12 under the false pretext of environmental protection.

In the related report, Maria Karapetyan informed that two days after the closure of the Lachin Corridor, on December 14, the RA National Assembly adopted a statement on Azerbaijan’s instigation of a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, which remains in force.

Maria Karapetyan stated that the previous day debates were held with the secretary of the NA Armenia Faction Artsvik Minasyan regarding some words and formulations of the statement, but no consensus was reached.

As a result of voting, the draft did not get the necessary number of votes in favor. 3 deputies voted for the draft, 5 deputies abstained.
