Japan was one of the first countries to respond to the humanitarian crisis caused by the Azerbaijani aggression in 2020. The head of Armenia-Japan Friendship Group Babken Tunyan said this during the meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia Masanori Fukushima on March 24.
Welcoming the guest, the Head of the Friendship Group highly appreciated the Ambassador’s activity in our country. He thanked Japan for its support to Armenia, highlighting the deepening of mutual cooperation between two countries in both economic and other spheres.
Touching upon the blockade of the Lachin Corridor and the humanitarian consequences and problems caused by it, Babken Tunyan noted that 120,000 of our compatriots are under actual blockade. He also referred to the issue of Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan.
Masanori Fukushima underscored that Japan attaches importance to mutual cooperation with Armenia. He mentioned that Japan is ready to contribute to the reforms implemented in Armenia in the areas of establishment of democratic institutions, digitization and other directions. According to the Ambassador, quite active cultural events took place during this period. Fukushima highlighted mutual visits between Friendship Groups and business communities.
The Ambassador expressed willingness to promote increasing the recognition of Armenia among Japanese businessmen.
