The meeting of the Standing Committee on Political Issues and International Cooperation of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly was held in St. Petersburg chaired by the Vice President of the RA National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan on March 29.
Among other issues, the Committee’s agenda included the statement on Azerbaijan’s instigation of a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh adopted by the RA National Assembly on 14 December 2022.
Regarding this issue, the RA NA deputy Shirak Torosyan drew the attention of the audience to the ongoing blockade of the Lachin Corridor and the created humanitarian crisis in Nagorno Karabakh. In this context, he highlighted the imperative of unconditional and speedy implementation of the decision of the International Court of Justice by Azerbaijan.
The Secretary of the RA NA With Honor Faction Tigran Abrahamyan noted that Azerbaijan not only violates the trilateral agreements, but also makes new demands, endangering the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the CSTO member Armenia. The threats of Azerbaijan are accompanied by provocations against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, there are casualties .
On the same day, the meetings of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Standing Committees on Defense and Security, Socio-Economic and Legal Issues were also held. The drafts of model legal documents developed by the above-mentioned Committees were discussed.
The CSTO PA Committees adopted decisions to send the draft statements of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space and Preventing Drug Use among Children and Adolescents to the parliaments of the CSTO member states in order to get opinions and proposals.
