Renovated Museum of National Assembly Re-opened
1 / 14

The support that allowed to renew the museum is very important. There is an intention to enlarge it in the future. The building of Parliament of the Republic of Armenia has its own unique history, and it is, not only in my opinion, considered one of the most beautiful and most presentable buildings in the whole world. And it is natural that the existence of such a museum, we can say, is a must by itself. The RA NA President Alen Simonyan said delivering opening speech at the reopening ceremony of the Parliament Museum.

The RA NA deputy, the Coordinator of the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project appointed by the RA NA President Hripsime Grigoryan, on behalf of herself and the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project Group, thanked the Swedish Government in the face of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden  to Armenia Patrik Svensson , as well as the Resident Representative  of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili for supporting the Project. According to Hripsime Grigoryan, the re-opening of the NA Museum is of particular importance from the viewpoint of opening Parliament to young and adult visitors.

In his speech, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden  to Armenia Patrik Svensson noted that the Swedish Government once again expresses readiness to support the Armenian Parliament and powers in the implementation of reforms. “Last year and especially this year, the advancement of the activity of this centre created more favorable conditions for the cooperation platform between the representatives of the National Assembly,” he said. The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the institutions that supported the re-opening of the Museum: the Armenian representation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the deputy Hripsime Grigoryan, the Ambassadors and the RA NA leadership.

The Resident Representative  of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili highlighted the opening of the reconstructed museum, considering the special role of Parliament from the viewpoint of spreading democracy and the fact that it also has a representative function.

In his speech, the RA NA Chief of Staff, Secretary General Davit Arakelyan thanked the Government of Sweden and the officials of the UNDP Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project for their support to the re-opening of the NA transformed and renewed museum. According to him, the re-opening and transformation of the museum was one of the important events, for which great efforts were made by the NA Staff and the employees of the UNDP Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project . The works of designing, renovating and transforming the museum lasted for about a year. According to Davit Arakelyan, the museum will be more interesting for the guests visiting the National Assembly - pupils, students and parliamentary delegations.

The Museum of the National Assembly was opened on 20 September 2018, within the framework of the jubilee event organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Parliament of Armenia. Souvenirs, historical documents, pictures, materials regarding the history of Parliament since 1918 received during mutual visits of parliamentary delegations of different convocations are displayed in the museum.

The re-opening of the reconstructed museum, equipped with new materials, was carried out with the support of the UNDP Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia (MAP) Project , which is financed by the Swedish Government.
