On April 5, the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan met with the members of the Senate of Mexico Alejandra del Carmen León Gastélum and Indira Kempis Martinez.

To the NA Vice President’s conviction, Armenia is concerned about activating and deepening the cooperation with Mexico and welcomes the close work with the friendship groups.

Hakob Arshakyan expressed gratitude to the members of the Senate of the United Mexican States for initiating and adopting the documents recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide on February 8, 2023. According to him, the Armenian Genocide is not the crime aimed at not only against the Armenian people, but also against whole humankind, and the recognition and condemnation is important for their further prevention.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament added that the statement of Mexico-Armenia Friendship Group during the aggression committed by Azerbaijan against Armenia in September 2022 is appreciated. He expressed hope that Mexico will assess more addressed the aggressive actions of Azerbaijan.

Hakob Arshakyan touched upon the humanitarian consequences of the blockade of the Lachin Corridor and noted that the Armenian side highly evaluates the speech of the Representative of Mexico at the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on this issue. According to the NA Vice President, to prevent the ethnic cleansing of the Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh the continuous attention and practical actions of the international community to the problem is important.

The Mexican senators highlighted the development and deepening of the parliamentary relations and noted that continuous are taken in that direction. They expressed conviction that the fight for excluding such crimes in the whole world. Alejandra del Carmen León Gastélum mentioned that great pressures have been by the Turkish side in impeding the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. According to her, it goes about the protection of human rights, and they presented the issue to the Senate.

The Head of the NA Armenia-Mexico Friendship Group Artur Khachatryan added that today also the Armenian people is standing before the genocide problem. Azerbaijan tries to commit genocide the people of Artsakh self-determined in their historical homeland. “We need help of our friends of Mexico, who will impose pressure on the criminal regime of Azerbaijan, so they will return to the political negotiations on the status of Artsakh and refuse its genocidal intentions,” Artur Khachatryan concluded.

The members of the Friendship Group Taguhi Ghazaryan and Alkhas Ghazaryan also emphasized the development of bilateral relations and the advancement of the cooperation agendas in different spheres.

At the end of the meeting Hakob Arshakyan handed over the commemorative medals of the President of the RA National Assembly to the guests.

The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in the Michoacán State of Mexico Hakob Sahakian and the Honorary Consul of Mexico to the Republic of Armenia Nikolay Kostandyan also took part in the meeting.
