The RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to Armenia Nora Arisian on April 14. The member of the NA Armenia-Syria Friendship Group Rustam Bakoyan and the deputy of the Civil Contract Faction Alkhas Ghazaryan also took part in the meeting.

According to Hakob Arshakyan, Armenia highly values the fraternal attitude of the Syrian authorities and the people towards Syrian Armenians. The attitude of Syria played a decisive role in supporting the Armenians who survived the Genocide. In this context, the NA Vice President highly valued Nora Arisian’s efforts, thanks to which the topic of the Armenian Genocide was included in Syrian textbooks.

The NA Vice President once again addressed words of support and sympathy to the Ambassador and to the people of Syria who are in a difficult humanitarian situation after the last devastating earthquake.

“Azerbaijan does not stop its maximalist, militant policy towards Armenia. The President of Azerbaijan Aliyev has already started making territorial claims against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. The actions carried out by the Azerbaijani armed forces on April 11 are a manifestation of such a policy,” the NA Vice President noted and detailed the next aggression of Azerbaijan in Tegh community of Syunik.

“It should be stated that the use of force and the threat of it are an integral part of the policy of Azerbaijan and aim to significantly destabilize the situation in the region and disrupt the efforts of mediator partners to continue peace negotiations. We call on the international community and all partners concerned about peace and stability in the region to condemn the aggressive actions of Azerbaijan through addressed statements and clear steps and prevent the latter from further escalation of the situation,” the NA Vice President underscored.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude to Armenia and the Armenian people for always standing by and supporting the people of Syria in difficult moments. In this context, he underlined the support of the Armenian Government after the last devastating earthquake. According to him, during the past 30 years, Armenian-Syrian relations have actively developed both in terms of work on the parliamentary and international platforms.
