Deputies of Civil Contract Host Loucas Fourlas: Raising the NK Issue in European Parliament is a Necessity

On April 25, the Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the RA National Assembly Arman Yeghoyan and the Deputy Chair of the Committee Meri Galstyan received the Member of the European Parliament from Cyprus, the Chairman of the Friendship Group with Armenia Loucas Fourlas.

The MEP being in Armenia for the first time has been in Syunik Marz (Region), got acquainted with deploying illegal checkpoint in the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and the works of officially blocking the Corridor.

Arman Yeghoyan noted that this step by Azerbaijan is aimed at carrying out ethnic cleansing consistently implementing its policy and completely depopulating Armenians from Nagorno Karabakh. The parliamentarian also informed his European colleague that the Azerbaijani officials already publicly propose the NK population to receive Azerbaijani passports.

The interlocutors considered urgent the necessity of raising the issue in the European Parliament.

The MPs also discussed issues regarding Armenia-European Union cooperation, particularly, the implementation of the joint restoration programmes in the border settlements.

At the end of the meeting, the sides also spoke about the issues on the Armenian-Cypriot friendship and the overcoming of problems facing the two peoples.
