Vahan Kerobyan: Food Safety Inspection Body is working with RF to open Russian market for Armenian companies as soon as possible
1 / 3

During the National Assembly-Government Q&A session held on May 24, the deputy of the Civil Contract Faction Narek Grigoryan said that farmers are complaining: the price of milk decreased, as a result of which citizens even blocked the road in Gegharkunik region as a sign of protest. The deputy also considered it necessary to mention that he met various farmers who told that the price of milk with 3.2 % fat varies between 120-130 AMD. Narek Grigoryan inquired from the Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan what measures are being taken to prevent cattle from being slaughtered.

“The price of milk in 2021 was the same as now. We are now back to standard prices. Due to the ban on the export of dairy products to the Russian Federation (RF), there is a surplus of milk in the country. Our teams are working to solve the problem,” the Minister of Economy said.

The Head of the Ministry also added that milk milked in traditional ways does not have the same quality characteristics as milk milked in a high-quality farm, therefore it is cheaper to purchase.

Vahan Kerobyan also informed that the companies engaged in milk export are facing a problem today: the Food Safety Inspection Body and the Russian partners are working to open the Russian market for those Armenian companies that meet high standards as soon as possible.

Narek Grigoryan responded to the Minister’s words and stated that it is not beneficial to establish a smart barn in Gegharkunik region.

“It is possible to start a slaughter of cattle because of the low price of milk. There will be a rich person who will import milk powder and use it to create milk, but this is a security threat, the issue should be taken more seriously,” the deputy said.

“We are trying to create an environment where high productivity cattle breeding with modern technologies will be promoted. People should adapt to the new conditions and understand that what worked 20 years ago will no longer work,” Vahan Kerobyan said.
