Nikol Pashinyan answers question about unblocking roads: I have never promised anyone a corridor through territory of Armenia: I can prove it
1 / 2

During the NA-Government Q&A session on May 24, the deputy of the Civil Contract Faction of the National Assembly Sergey Bagratyan asked the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan whether the issues of unblocking the roads and the construction of the road connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhijevan are being debated, what economic result the RA will have as a result of their implementation, whether it is possible that this debate will be stopped and the issue will not be included in the peace treaty.

“There is no separate communication agenda between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan. This issue is included in the framework of the opening of regional communications, where it is recorded that the RA is ready to ensure that communication,” the RA Prime Minister said.

Nikol Pashinyan once again affirmed that according to the Trilateral Statement of November 9, both Azerbaijan and Armenia are obliged to open regional communications, and Armenia is ready to do that.

“There is an idea and problem of building new infrastructures. The RA has no obligation to build such infrastructures, but it can consider that option as well. We will agree to it when we see that it creates a background for regional integration, peace and mutual benefit, thanks to which we will overcome the blockade,” the Prime Minister of the country noted.

Nikol Pashinyan also informed that the only railway connecting the northern and southern parts of the RA passes through the territory of Nakhichevan, and the problem of operating it also exists.

“Based on the principle of sovereignty, jurisdiction and reciprocity, we are ready to restart the railway with Azerbaijan. There was this arrangement at the political level, when the turn came to give legal formulation and sign it, I said: I am signing, Azerbaijan did not sign. Now we are trying to solve that issue again,” Nikol Pashinyan mentioned.

Nikol Pashinyan touched upon the statements of the opposition regarding the “corridor” as well.

“I can prove in the format of the jury that I have never, never, never promised anyone a corridor through the territory of Armenia, nor did I allow anyone to get the impression that I can promise it. I can declassify and prove this, to which there can be no objection,” the RA Prime Minister said.
