Hasmik Hakobyan presents situation in Nagorno-Karabakh at Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of Inter-Parliamentary Union
1 / 1

179 countries of the world took part in the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The member of the RA NA delegation Hasmik Hakobyan presented the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh to the parliamentarians.

“We, as young parliamentarians, have gathered to engage in discussions that hold significant importance for each of us.

Currently, the landscape of human performance is profoundly shaped by the means of digital transformation and innovation, rendering them indispensable in our daily lives and professional endeavors. As we convene for this session, we direct our attention to the paramount theme of fostering cultural diversity as an essential pillar underpinning sustainable development.

Today, the realization of cultural diversity remains an elusive goal in numerous regions, particularly in the conflict zones. An example is the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, where the population is deprived of their fundamental right to education. Hence, it is imperative that we underscore the significance of ensuring universal access to education for all, even in the face of such challenging circumstances.

After Covid-19, it has become increasingly challenging to envision education without the integration of digital technologies.

Unfortunately, this situation is exacerbated for the 20.000 students residing in Karabakh, where their access to these essential digital resources is limited by Azerbaijan

It is with a heavy heart that I convey the distressing fact that, as of December 2022, for a span of nine long months, Azerbaijan has subjected 120.000 ethnic Armenians to a blockade, depriving them of vital sustenance, essential medication and fuel. Furthermore, these people endure the recurrent interruption of gas, electricity, and Internet services. This situation not only constitutes a grave violation upon the right to education but also undermines the very principles of sustainable development and cultural diversity.

In this era of digital transformation, where information is accessible on a global scale, it is disheartening to witness the hindrance of sustainable development for the youth in Nagorno-Karabakh.

This is reality in the modern world that calls for international attention, empathy, and collective action to correct this injustice and safeguard the futures of those affected”, Hasmik Hakobyan mentioned.
