Rustam Bakoyan: Our primary problem is to ensure peace and security of region
1 / 4

I highlight the role of the European Parliament and the European Union in issues concerning Armenia. As the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan rightly noticed, the European Parliament spoke the language of truth during all the ordeals that befell the Armenians of the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. In this context, I value your mission and the pro-Armenian activity. The Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan underlined this during the meeting with the French Member of the European Parliament Geoffroy Didier and expressed readiness for further cooperation.

The Deputy Chair of the Committee also underscored the role of the friendly France in the process of reforms implemented in the field of democracy and human rights protection in Armenia, as well as in the protection of the rights of our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

The MP detailed to the guests the Crossroads of Peace project, which, if implemented, will lead to long-term and stable peace in the region. In this context, Rustam Bakoyan emphasized the support of international partners, which in turn will guarantee the establishment of peace in the region.

The Deputy Chair of the Committee also presented the existing problems in the field of human rights, raised the issues of protection of the rights of our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, immediate return of the Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan. He noted that our citizens living in border communities are facing serious problems: Azerbaijanis target border settlements and civilians. The MP also spoke in detail about the problems of national minorities living in our country, particularly the Yazidi community, stating that the latter are protected in Armenia. The Deputy Chair of the Committee also drew the attention of the Member of the European Parliament to the issue of protecting the rights of the Yazidis of Iraq. Geoffroy Didier pointed out that he had been in Iraq and confirmed that the lives of Yazidis are in danger there.

“We will strengthen the relations between Armenia and the European Union, we will express our warm friendship towards Armenia,” Geoffroy Didier stressed.
