On January 23, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Armenia Bergljot Hovland (Residence Tbilisi).

The NA President congratulated Ambassador Hovland on the occasion of her appointment, wishing her success during her tenure.

“Armenia have always felt the support of friendly Norway. We remember with gratitude the Norwegians Fridtjof Nansen, Bodil Biørn, who provided aid the Armenians during the Armenian Genocide. Today also we are thankful to the Government of Norway for the assistance aimed at the needs of our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh,” Alen Simonyan noted.

The Head of Parliament also underscored the contribution of the Norwegian Government to the development of democratic institutions in the Republic of Armenia and strengthening of democracy.

The Ambassador thanked Alen Simonyan for warm reception and mentioned that Norway highly appreciates the democratic reforms implemented in the Republic of Armenia in recent years.

During the meeting a number of issues regarding the strengthening of relations between the two countries, the establishment of security and peace in the region and the international security were discussed.

The interlocutors stressed the necessity of expanding the bilateral inter-parliamentary ties.
